Managing your profile and preferences
Set a display name and avatar, change language and notification preferences, and understand what's public, what's private, and how it all ties to your wallet.

Your YOM account works fine without ever touching a profile setting: the wallet address is the identity, everything else is optional. But a display name beats reading eth_7ed407 everywhere, and the preferences control how the app talks to you. This page covers what you can set, where to find it, and how profile data relates to your wallet.
where profile settings live
Open the YOM app and look for the profile menu in the bottom-left of the interface. That’s where your account-level settings sit: display name, avatar, language, and notifications. Click through to open the settings view.
The exact labels can shift between app versions, so rather than hunting for a specific button name: anything about how you appear or how the app behaves for you lives in that profile menu. Anything about your nodes lives in My hosts, and anything about money lives on the Earnings page.
display name
By default the app shows an abbreviated version of your wallet address (something like eth_7ed407) wherever your account appears. Setting a display name replaces that with something human-readable.
- Open the profile menu and look for the display name field
- Type a name, save
- The change applies in the app; nothing is written on-chain
A few things worth knowing:
- The display name is shown in the app wherever your account appears. Your wallet address remains your actual identity. The name is a label on top of it, not a replacement.
- You can change or remove it whenever you like.
- It doesn’t affect earnings, hosts, quests, or anything functional.
avatar
Same place, same idea. Look for the avatar upload in the profile menu, pick an image, and it replaces the default placeholder shown next to your name in the app. The image is stored on YOM’s backend as an avatar URL tied to your wallet address. Again, nothing on-chain.
language and notification preferences
The profile menu also holds two preference groups:
- Language: which language the YOM app interface uses.
- Notifications: what the app notifies you about and through which channel. If you care about knowing quickly when a node drops offline, this is the setting to review. An offline node earns nothing until you notice it.
Preferences are stored per account, so they follow your wallet across devices: sign in on your phone and the same settings apply.
what’s public, what’s private
Worth being precise here, because the two halves of your identity behave very differently:
- Your wallet address is inherently public. It’s on Avalanche C-Chain, and every payout, claim, and contract interaction tied to it is visible to anyone on Snowtrace. No profile setting changes this. It’s how blockchains work.
- Your display name and avatar are shown in the app. They live in YOM’s database, not on-chain, and they’re what other parts of the app render instead of your abbreviated address.
- Your preferences (language, notifications) are private. They only affect how the app behaves for you.
If pseudonymity matters to you, the lever is the wallet, not the profile. A display name doesn’t hide your address, and your address links to everything that wallet has ever done on any chain. See Your data, your privacy, and account removal for the full picture.
how profile data relates to your wallet identity
The mental model: the wallet is the account, the profile is decoration on the account.
Everything you set on this page (name, avatar, preferences) is off-chain data in YOM’s backend database, keyed to your wallet address. That has two useful consequences:
- It’s deletable. Unlike on-chain history, profile data can be removed on request. The data and privacy page covers the download and deletion flows.
- It’s not portable between wallets. The profile belongs to the address it was created under.
That second point matters if you ever switch wallets.
switching wallets means a fresh profile
Sign in with a different wallet (a new social login, a different MetaMask account) and you get a blank profile: default abbreviated-address name, no avatar, default preferences. Your original profile isn’t gone; it’s still attached to the original wallet and reappears when you sign back in with it.
There’s no way to transfer a profile from one address to another, for the same reason hosts and earnings don’t transfer: each wallet is a separate account. If you’re consolidating onto one wallet, set up the profile fresh on the destination address. See Switching wallets on YOM for what does and doesn’t move.
if a setting won’t save
Profile changes are ordinary backend writes, so failures are usually mundane: an expired session or a connection blip. Sign out, sign back in, and retry. If a setting persistently refuses to save, contact the team with your wallet address and what you were trying to change.
